Contact Us

My name is Dan Porteous. I have been a resident of Kirkland Lake for 50 years. I grew up in the "Good-Old-Days" when Kirkland Lake was known as the "Hub of the North on the Mile of Gold."

I remember when we had six producing mines all operating on the "Mile of Gold" in the Kirkland Lake Gold Camp including the Macassa Mine which held the record for the deepest single-lift shaft in the Western hemispere at 7,225 feet. The Lakeshore Mine was another that attained world notoriety with the infamous Sir Harry Oakes discovering it back in 1912.

I have a very special set of bookends in my library that were custom cut and polished from Green Carbonate which came from the depths of the Kerr-Addison Mine, as did the sample pictured here. The Kerr alone produced 11,200,000 ounces of gold over a 50 year period.
