How They Can Help You Grow Your Business
The Business of E-Books
E-books ...is there anyone who hasn't heard of them? But what are they exactly, and how can they help grow your business? By leaps and bounds, that's how. A quality, properly marketed e-book is quite arguably one of the best selling tools around. Visit some of the most successful sites, and pay attention to how many of them offer free e-books just for subscribing to a newsletter, or sometimes, just for the asking.
So, should you create your own in order to boost your site's business? Most likely. But before you start writing, read on to discover just what e-books are, and how to put one together that will increase your profits.
What is it?
An e-book is basically an HTML file that can be downloaded and read from any PC or Macintosh computer or put on a CD or floppy disk. It can be plain text, or can contain graphics, interactive images, or even links to the Internet. Most e- books are created as giveaways, but some are sold for a small fee. Some people simply write e-books and sell them as an alternative to traditional publishing, but today's marketing experts are touting them as the greatest tool to come along in a while.
There are some important things to consider before writing and designing your own e-book. The first, obviously, is to decide on a topic. If your intention is to promote your site, you'll want to tie in the topic with whatever product or service you sell. For instance, if you run a site that sells boating equipment, you may write an e-book called, Sailing 101.
Next, you'll want to purchase the software that allows you to format the book and display it in a professional, easy-to-read manner. Look at NeoBook, WebCompiler or Infocourier to name a few. I have personally invested in E-ditor Pro and am very satisfied.
Once you've decided on a topic and software package, it's time to get to work. When writing your e-book, remember to pack it with useful, timely information. Many people make the mistake of assuming that since the book is free, consumers won't expect as much from it. Not true. Your book needs to be so good that readers will pass it along to their friends, and their friends, and so on. That's how you'll make money on the book: by as many people reading it as possible.
Follow the tips below to insure that your book is as good as it can be.
In short, writing an e-book that has the potential to experience success is not easy work. You must put a lot of effort into it, but once you do, you'll have a flexible marketing tool that will work 365 days and nights a year for you.
- Use mainly text in your book so that the maximum amount of people can download it. Also, limit complicated graphics and animated banners because they take up a lot of space, and may become too large for some people to download.
- Be sure to check spelling and grammar. Misspelled words or poor grammar will create an amateur image--not what you need to catapult your e-book to success.
- Select a title that speaks to as many people as possible. For instance, the title I used earlier, Sailing 101, would speak to anyone interested in learning how to sail. But if you named the same book Swimming with Dolphins, some potential readers may skip over it, not understanding that it may be just what they were looking for.
